Update: Rockies Re-Sign Francis
I realize this might be a bit of old news to those of you who are on top of the hot stove, but there was a flurry of activity yesterday and I am only one man. A handsome, brilliant, amazingly talented man granted, but only one man none the less.
Right…uh, now then as I was saying, the Colorado Rockies re-signed pitcher Jeff Francis to a 4 year $13.25 million contract. Francis was the a Rockies draft pick back in ’02 and went 13-11 with a 4.16 ERA in only his second year of service. While 4.16 is not the best ERA you’ve ever seen, keep in mind the Rockies do play half their games at one of the most home run friendly parks in the history of the game. Francis’ ERA was a fourth of a run lower away from home than in the bandbox known as Coors Field. The lefty is only 25 and has impressed most everyone in the Rockie organization to the point that the club broke from their tradition of allowing their players to go through the arbitration process; instead, locking up their former #1 pick for the next four years, with an option for a fifth.
