Rumor: Red Sox "Don't Want No Mo"
The buzz around Boston is that the Red Sox are trying to pull off a trade with the Nationals for closer Chad Cordero. While that's certainly believable, the fact that the bait is allegedly Willy Mo Pena, strikes me as a bit odd. Don't get me wrong, I have no doubt the Sox would like to trade Pena, I simply can't figure out why the Nationals would give up their closer for him. I don't care how much National GM, Jim Bowden likes Will Mo, unless there are other players involved in this deal, color me skeptical.

It sounded too good to be true for me, a huge Sox guy. But just that the Sox are trying to rid themselves of WMP is a good thing. He is an absolute zero defensive guy.....I'd rather have Trot Noxon in right. That's doubtful too.

I actually think, sans walks, that Wily Mo could become a lesser Manny: think .285, 38 homers, 95 rbi: though yeah, his defense is often comic. The entertainment value of it all is good, and the Sox keep KILLING their few remaining team characters, one by one. Chad Cordero would be a solid smart deal, but closers now (Wickman, Turnbow etc.) are changeable year to year. Wily Mo will improve his offensive numbers until 2009.
The question I still have is, why didn't the Sox show any interest in Aubrey Huff? (Didn't they nearly trade Manny for THIS guy two years ago?) Huff is younger than Drew, less injury prone, and last I checked he plays first and third in addition to right. Plus his deal couldn't exceed half of Drew's at this point. Is it because Hinske plays that role? Or is Huff busted am I'm just not informed on that?
