Wouldya: Rodriguez for Rolen?
I have to admit, I've enjoyed the discussion in my previous post about the possible trade between the Cardinals and the Tigers. So, in that vein, I'm starting a new section on the blog. It's called "Wouldya?" (no, not like that) and the premise is simple: I'll propose a trade and assign a side. Then you, the readers, pick a side and decide whether you'd pull the trigger. If you just want to say yes or no, that's fine, if you'd like to explain why, that's even better! I'm hoping to spark some debates back and forth and post these on days that the Hot Stove isn't quite so hot... So, without further ado, here's the first trade.
From the St. Louis Cardinals' perspective... "Wouldya" trade Scott Rolen for Alex Rodriguez?
Vote now and explain why by leaving a comment!

No way. Rodriguez is great and all, but Rolen is a Cardinals' Great.

To be honest, this one is tough for me to pick. Rolen is great and an amazing fielder. But, Arod is fantastic as well and I think the whole "not clutch" rap is BS. Plus you have the Rolen/LaRussa feud so... I think, money aside, I'd go for it...

If I'm St Louis, no. If I'm the Yankees, I fall all over myself to make the trade.
One is an elite gamer and the other is named A-Rod.

I don't think I would do that if I was either team...Rolen is a Cardinal-kind-of-guy..,Blue-Collar, Hard-Nosed, Gritty. A-Rod is the better all-around player and I think he has a longer amount of play in him...I think that A-Rod should go back to Seattle (I am a Mariner fan) for Adrian Beltre...

I'm voting no simply because as an Astros fan, I know A-Rod would destroy us!!! LOL....

ARod isn't exactly in the Yankees good graces and despite their comments to the contrary, I wouldn't be surprised to see him dealt. Rolen is a "Cardinals" type guy but I think Arod is more durable and better offensively. Imagine Pujols and ARod back to back for years... wow.

I love Rolen but the thought of ARod in St Lou has gives me shivers... man that would be AWESOME!

As a Yankees fan who lives not far from Philly...
let me add.
If Rolen wanted so badly to get out of Philly and the East coast,
what makes you think he would want to come back East and to NY to boot?

Not A-Rod for Rolen, but A-Rod for whoever is playing shortstop for the Cards. Remember that A-Rod was a shortstop first. I think the chance to go back to his natural position and get out of NYC would be an improvement for him.
Not that I would REALLY want to see this happen...being a Mets fan and all...

I'm no A-Rod fan, but at least he stays healthy. Rolen is hurt ALL THE TIME. Gotta go with A-Rod over Rolen.

Rolen has been hurt in the past but except for fatigue made in thru the year OK. And the so-called feud is making a mountain out of an ant hill. He'll get over it. I would not do this trade. Rolen is a hard-nosed guy with gold gloves. You win with pitching and defense. Arod is out of position at 3rd. Good offense but.....

The Cardinals SS is the World Series MVP, David Eckstein--something Alex Rodriguez could never, ever become. So no, I'd still take Eckstein over A-Rod. The difference between the two are that A-Rod doesn't play to win and Eckstein plays to win every single second that he's on the field.
If I'm the Yankees, I do it in a heartbeat. If I'm the Cardinals, I roll around on the floor, clutching my stomach as I let out hearty belly laughs and gasp for breath to recover... then I politely decline the invitation to ruin the Cardinals' chances of winning another World Series in the next 5 years.

"The Cardinals SS is the World Series MVP, David Eckstein..."
Thanks for the info, Zoopnova. For some reason, I thought Eckstein was the 2B. (My work schedule is such that I didn't see much of the post-season).
"My Friend, the Yankees Fan" told me that Jeter was willing to move to 3B when A-Rod came. If he can play 3B, Jeter, Eckstein, Cano and a REAL 1B would be a formidable infield for the Yankees.
On the St. Louis side, a line up of Poujols, A-Rod and Rolen, not to mention that kind of an infield, would indeed be scary to Houston, and Cincy and would be an answer to what the Cubs have been doing this off-season.
Not everyone can play in NYC. Nolan Ryan, baseball's greatest no-hit pitcher, never threw one with the Mets. Looks like A-Rod may be one of those.

The question is prased wrong, and is probably producing dead opposite results to those responders intend: is it "Rolen for Rodriquez"? Are "we" the Cards? God yes.
